I feel so lucky to have found Anita Horsley. Before meeting her, I could not have imagined that at 63 years of age, I would be seriously training three to five times a week. Now I find that I’m getting addicted to the gym. Most important, I am achieving my training goals and getting stronger and more fit each week.
 
The first day I broke my opening-ride-of-the-season PR for average speed: 14.8 mph for 11 miles. Last time I was over that was halfway thru the 2002 season, and it was drafting with son Matt (18 mph). Looking back through my cycling stats, I haven't ever come close to 15 mph until at least the 10th or 12th ride of the year. It's all thanks to Anita's strength training over the last 3.5 months!

You acknowledge my limitations (ankle and knee issues) and have developed a training program accordingly.

You don't ask me to do more than I can do, but continually encourage and inspire me to not stop until I have reached the highest level possible.

You are developing an exercise program that I can do when I am away from a gym.

You are extraordinarily competent in your field and demonstrate this by varying the exercises for a particularly muscle or muscle group on a continual basis, as well as continually identifying the muscle(s) being used.

1. It seems like every drill we do has a purpose. The exercises are well planned out and thought is put into each drill.
2. The classes are never the same. Anita keeps it fresh
3. Bootcampers of all levels can attend and not feel left out or bored
4. Great workout and an effective use of time
5. I like the feeling when the class is done. Anita kicks our butt!

1. Anita individualizes the workouts for her clients. It's not cookie cutter.

2. There is genuine caring from Anita and she is focused on her client during each session. I have worked with other trainers in the past and did not feel they were completely committed to helping improve my fitness level. Anita is tuned in to her client during the session, watching form and providing support when needed.

3. Anita checks in on her client's progress regularly and sees the partnership as a long term commitment

4. Anita is non-judgemental. For someone that is a "showcase of great fitness", she doesn't have an ego to match. I don't sense she has an ounce of arrogance.

5. Anita enjoys what she does and it shows when she's working with her clients.

I've improved my muscle strength and endurance. Also, the health assessment was the "kick" I needed to start working on some specific areas. I have lost 10 lbs and 5% body fat in 3 months.

We really focus on my upper body strength. Since I started working with Anita, I think my core is much stronger. I can definitely tell my posture is better and my stomach may be a tad tighter. At least I hope so! Also, I bike a lot and my hill climbing and endurance have improved.
 
I think Anita is great and would recommend her to anyone who’s interested in becoming fitter.

You shook me out of a "just holding steady" mentality that I had fallen into.   I needed to find someone who inspired me and expected more of me -- and you provided that. 

 

You should be able to tell by the huge and die-hard loyal following you obtained at the DAC that you are truly different than other instructors and trainers.  A few of the main reasons are that:

  1. You always treated the limited time of our workouts as of utmost importance with no time to waste.  With how hectic my life is these days, it is a major struggle to find enough time to workout.  Having you take the time as seriously as I do was just invaluable.  I have never seen another trainer use every second as productive time. 
  2. You have a fantastic way of always expecting more out of who you are working with, and that, in turn, actually makes us do more.  You do not give us an easy out on anything (!) and that is important. 
  3. Whether in class or in personal training, you always changed things up so it was never boring or repetitive in any way.  And fourth, I can really tell that you know what you are doing. 

Over the years, I have worked with several personal trainers and on many different kinds of teams.  I have never had someone spot me on some of the equipment the same way that you did or on as high of weights as you had me do.  You did it as if it was just second-nature and I really noticed this and respected it.  It made me feel like this was exactly what I should be pushing myself to do.

2. She will start with different body parts like abs first. Even though I like to do abs last, I know it is good to switch up the routine.

She has helped me train for a ½ marathon, and helped me to improve my time. She has helped me with strength training as well endurance training. Oh my goodness. I did really well. I ran sooooooooooo much faster than I had planed.

1. Anita makes an hour of physical exertion fun
2. Anita pushes me to my limit and occasionally failure
3. After 14 sessions I rarely have had the same segment of workout. Variety is good.
4. Anita has been very cooperative dealing with schedule conflicts

1. Anita’s a great person and trainer. She’s the type of trainer that makes you want to better yourself physically. Obviously, I have a desire to succeed, but I also want to do well for her too. She’s that great of a motivator.

2. Anita is by far one of the most experienced personal trainers in this area. She is confident in her abilities and knowledge, which make me confident in her ability to help and guide me in my training. She won’t design a “cookie-cutter” program for her clients like so many other trainers do.

3. I’m impressed with the amount of time Anita has put into keeping in touch with me as a client. She works hard and puts a lot of effort into what she does as a trainer. It’s clear she enjoys what she’s doing and is genuinely interested in your results and training program.

4. Anita is her own best advertising. She’s in fantastic physical shape.
5. Anita has a kind personality and is very approachable. She’s not the type of trainer that looks down on you or has a “judgmental” type attitude.

Personal results I have seen based on taking Anita’s personal training sessions:

I was at a plateau in weight loss in spite of training hard all winter long for the upcoming spring/summer cycling season. I had my body composition tested by Anita. I didn’t like the results and was frustrated with the amount of effort I had put in during the winter without visible results. Anita redesigned my strength/cardio program and made some suggestions for my nutritional intake. I was actually able to eat more! In a veryshort time, I saw increased strength, muscle definition and dropped my percentage of body fat.

1. Anita listened to me about where I was in my fitness (which was very limited) and adapted the program according to my age, level of fitness, and goals.


2. Every time we meet we do something different, which keeps it interesting.


3. She always pushes me hard but never so hard that I can’t go on.


4. She is aware of my limitations and patient with me if I am struggling. Early on she noticed that I would get dizzy after every set. She took time to research what might be causing the dizziness and gave me excellent input that has helped minimize the problem.


5. Anita is always encouraging, focused, and supportive.

where to begin!! I'll start by saying you have jump started my spring! After a session with you I feel motivated , energized and
wiped out all at the same time. I appreciate your straight forward
style and the variety that you bring into each workout. It's never boring . Your experience and knowledge base is evident with your eye for detail and form ,not to mention your accomplishments.

 

Your timing is impeccable when encouragement is needed and with me that seems frequent. You know how to safely push my limits without overwhelming me. Last but not least you have a wonderful personality.

Results from my training sessions have been many, The first one
that comes to mind is an overall feeling of increased strength and
stamina followed by one of my personal goals of being able to beat my friend in bench-pressing 135 which I'm happy to report I'm very close to.

 

Others include now being able to run without significant knee pain, less low back strains due to more core strength and endurance in my cardio workouts. and the confidence to try a new
sport of mountain-biking. All of these results ensure me of an active summer in the great Northwest pursuing biking,canoeing backpacking and hiking hopefully injury free.
